    Default Back from MIJ...........

After this, http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63719, just got back from MIJ after mods to GSi exhaust.

Have now joined the de-cat club along with GSi3.2 http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59699.

Can only concur with what Mark says - much more torque (which really suits the auto box) and hardly any extra noise . MPG seems about the same but the car is so much more responsive. Will get emissions checked 2mrw just to compare.

Only downside was that when MIJ got it in the air, it needed a new flexible joint as well, so the price went up a bit (well more than double).

Took an hour to do, great service as usual.

Sorry there's no pics but not much to see really

Having read threads and posts on, would you believe it, a web site for MOT guys, there is no requirement to have the cat fitted. As Mark has quite rightly said, as long as the emissions coming out the back end are OK, then's there's no problem with the MOT.

There may be some who disagree, see posts #58 & 59 of http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...t=59699&page=6

Yes, was a bit taken aback.

Might as well spill the beans on what I paid - had an e-mail quote from Jay saying £49.99 to remove cat and make good (supply and fit a length of stainless pipe where the cat was). This price was to include fuel allowance etc.. Not bad me thinks as I've got relatives only 15 mins away from MIJ.

So car goes up in the air and Jay notices that the outer stainless braid that covers the flexible/expansion section is coming away. Says it's OK for now but really needs to be done sometime.

So you're put on the spot - do I or don't I? Says he'll do it for £120 so I agree.

Now on reflection, the labour was the same I guess whether I had the flexible bit done or not, which makes the flexy joint £70.

And, they've got my cat, which is probably worth £20-£30 scrap.

I was cold, fed up, had a job getting to MIJ due to major roadworks and temporary one way systems outside their place and had to pay 40p for a coffee!!

Just been to have the emmisions checked by same garage that did my last MOT.

Didn't tell them there was no cat on the vehicle but ALL emissions were well within those required for the MOT. So job done.

Having now covered 300 miles of mixed driving, MPG is the roughly the same as before the de-cat but much better driveability with the auto box.

See where your'e coming from re the price but you did have the option to say no or better still haggle over the price. What would the cost of saying no to extra work being done - then having to sort it later compare to what you paid. I had to pay for my coffee as well.

I want some to see what they did and how it now looks.

Reason being that I did once put a thread up on here saying that its just going to be a std' exhaust pipe fitted in its place.

How hard can it be to DIY it?

And you get to keep the cat for when or if the MOT guy says its failed!
30 min job refitting the old one, then 30 min to take it back off for the year.

But its not going to be green !!
