    Default TV Set up...

Just after a little bit of info.. and the best way to hook the tv up to various sources...
I'm after the best sound i can get from my dvd system and tv really.. I have a JVC home theatre system.. but the only sound connections are literally the speakers and scart to the tv...
I can play the sound from the tv on the theatre system but wondering is there any way of getting better sound from the sky box too.. as the tv has a optical output source..and so does the sky plus box.. if i bought an optical cable, would i get any better sound out of the speakers of the surround system once I play it through the home theatre system?..

put an optical from your sky box to you amp. Never mind from the tv. The sky is dolby digital (well mine is. ..hd box) but i`d imagine yours would be too.....and to be honest the sound is better than the picture!!

the dvd player doesnt have an optical source..only a scart..
would i hear any benefits from running an optical cable from the sky plus box to the tv??
and would i get proper surround sound by using the dvd system sound from the tv??

If it has rca (phono outputs) use these into the amp

If your tv has an "optical in" Yes but it will sound 10 times better again if you put the optical cable into your av receiver

NO....the tv only has stereo sound, they can do surround effect etc but its not proper surround sound if the sound if all coming from the same direction.

imho your best bet is to put an optical cable into your av receiver from your sky box for dolby digital. for the dvd use rca leads (good quality ones )into the amp and a scart into the tv. if your dvd player doesnt have rca out you can get a scart that splits the audio visual into seperate cables like this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-PureA.../dp/B0003057BO

The 360 has an optical output for audio (with the right cable - either the advanced scart cable or component cable) so you can feed that into any amp that has an optical input. So you'll be able to play DVDs in the Xbox and have the better sound coming out of it.

Does your theatre system support Dolby Digital and does it have five speakers? i.e. fronts, centre and two rears?

yep D, 5 speakers and a sub.. however there are no other input connections on the back of it.. it is only connected via a scart leas to the tv
I have at the minute, TV, Sky+, Xbox360. Wii and the dvd home theatre system..
the 360 at the minute is connected to the tv with the hd cable.. the sky to the tv via a scart, and the wii via the 3 cable setup (red, yellow, white)..
