i dont think it will affect vauxhall/opel group as there growth in the euro market proves this and the vauxhall/opel group have made a hefty profit
GM will carry on it just wont be as we know it instead of vauxhall insignia it will probably be something like hyundai insignia
at the end of the day there just like any other company who at the moment are struggling why shud they get bailed out while the small company has to close.
one of my m8s has a small fruit & veg shop & a small stall on the market he is really struggling to keep 2 shops open,
after new year he my have to close one which will make 2 of is 5 staff jobless times are hard VX should slash there prices to attract trade.
Will Vauxhall do a Rover? Well, let's see. Is Vauxhall run by four Directors who are only intent on filling their own pockets? Have Vauxhall taken a £500 million interest-free loan from BMW, that only has to be repaid in 50 years time (i.e. it's effectively a gift, not a loan) that is supposed to help fund new product development, which the Directors have - contrary to the purpose of the gift/loan - NOT given to Vauxhall, but instead gifted to a shell company which then charges Vauxhall interest for use of the funds? Is Vauxhall desperately short of new models and instead stuck with endlessly facelifting existing models? Are Vauxhall's petrol engines ones that were engineered 11 years ago? Are their diesel engines even more outdated? Have the Vauxhall Directors spent the last two years unsuccessfully scouring the planet for someone, anyone, to co-develop new models with, because they can't afford to fund new models alone? Will the Vauxhall Directors end up trying to a deal with a Chinese manufacturer and amateurishly allow the Chinese hosts to ply them with alcohol at a meeting that lasts all evening (while the hosts themselves stay 100% sober), resulting in the Vauxhall Directors signing over all their intellectual property rights for £67 million?
I'd say the answer to these questions is no, hence the answer to "will Vauxhall do a Rover" is also no.
Sadly VX lost its independence when it was bought by GM, and within the GM empire it is organizationally a subsidiary of Opel which is German and based in Germany. If push comes to shove, what were Vauxhall cars can simply be marketed as Opel ones. It could be argued that it makes no sense financially to maintain a separate Vauxhall marque and a Vauxhall company when its home market can be just as easily served by Opel. Most Vauxhall cars for the UK market are not made here but elsewhere by Opel and rebadged as Vauxhalls. The vast majority of Vauxhall car owners (who are not in car clubs) would not be put out by having the same car badged as Opel car rather than Vauxhall.
As for getting money from the UK government, Vauxhall is not a British car company in the true sense of the word. There is something to be said for assistance from the UK government if Vauxhall's UK plants were absorbed into a single pan-european vehicle manufacturing company i.e. Opel, in order to keep the UK plants open and producing cars.
Successive governments have made it clear by their actions that they are not willing to subsidise a British mainstream high-volume car industry as recent experiences with British Leyland and Rover have proved.
