    Default New HID's

Well after a lot of consideration (at lest 30 seconds) i decided to order myself a set of 50w 4.3k HID's from HID direct. They come complete with the bulb failure wires, bulb holders and a set of side light bulbs for £91 delivered!!!! Result hope i'm as impressed when they arrive!

I've just received mine, arrived day after I paid! Mine are the 6k bulbs tho, I'm just looking around the wings now to see where the ballast pack and cancellers are going to go! Gulp...

Anyone here got any pics of where they bolted their packs???

One for you mate - You'll probably need to go and buy a 25mm hole cutter, it says you need one to drill a hole in the access cap to push the wires through.

50W? Are they brighter than the standard 35W ones?

I was looking at an MTEC kit with the 5100K GE bulbs, as I'm driving about with 1 HID and 1 normal bulb since one of my elcheapo blew up last week. £149 though.

Just had a look at the 50W jobs - 8A start current? Hmm...do they come with a relay or can the Vectra's lighting unit run that OK?

On my wife's prefacelift I placed the ballast box inside the battery cover on the nearside (lots of space in there, so it was well away from the battery - althought I don't know if diesel models have bigger batteries..?) and on the offside I stuck it just tucked under the edge of the wing (accessible after removing the airbox).

I looked into it and 55w ones are meant to be almost twice as bright again as the 35w ones. We'll see soon enough i suppose. 8amp start up? It'll be fine it'll be at least a 10amp fuse on the circuit and the wiring will handle double that!!!

Well i got my hid kit in...... Not best pleased! After putting it all together one refused to work, turns out one of the warning cancellors isn't working (not a great start) got both of them working and took it a run. Got two dark patches running through the center of the beam pattern WTF!!!! Looked at the box to see if i'd done something silly and it turns out it's a 35w kit too!!!! Bulbs fitted correctly, i'll be on the phone tomorrow and see whats happened. Has anyone else had a dark patch in they're beam pattern before?

The dark line in the beam is the electrode that runs along the outside of the bulb, I turned mine round so the electrode runs across the top of the bulb when its in the light, the bulb retaining clips are then very tight, but with a bit of persuasion they do go in, my kit was 60 quid plus postage with a 2 year warranty, been in about a fortnight now, and no problems as yet, well impressed with the difference between the HID and the standard halogens.
