Yes, I know the 1.8's are, if you get trouble have the conversion kit done, it ain't cheap but at least you won't have anymore hassle with it.

Conversion kit? You mean to a solid flywheel? I'm not sure if we've seen those on the market for these cars yet - unless you've seen one?

Gascon - yes the DMF, as far as I'm aware, is across the range. They can cause issues. A lot of 1.9 guys seem to have been affected, not sure why those more than anything, but they're susceptible on all models. On my 2.0T I think mine is starting to grumble (70K miles) although it could be the clutch - either way it's booked in next week to have both done as I need to have a new main oil seal which involves dropping the gearbox so would be daft not to have them both done at the same time given my mileage and symptoms of one, or both, of them not being right.

    Hi Duncan

Just wondering, that main oil seal, is it the crank shaft oil seal? I do have a little bit of a leak and was told it could be crankshaft oil seal, if it needs doing should I get my DMF changed?

My mates just had one fitted to his 1.8, not sure if this is a VX thing or a local mod tbh as one multi cab owner got so sick of the DMF's failing I do believe he found a way of fitting a different flywheel, I'll make enquires, it cost him £600 for the fly and a clutch fitted.

Well to do the seal the gearbox needs dropped, so whether you would do the clutch and flywheel at the same time would partly depend on your mileage and if you've ahd any issue/grumblings from either of them. If you've done a fair bit of mileage then it would make sense - especially as you'd be paying out for all that labour for a £25 part if you only got the seal done!

Be warned though, the parts aren't cheap - especially the flywheel. Even at trade club prices the clutch is £265 and the flywheel is £435!

Crikey, more info would be interesting on that Ian - given that just the Vx parts, even at TC prices, cost more than that before any labour.
