Default 3.0 v6 cdti turbo problem

My 2004 3.0 cdti sri has developed a whirring noise and has since got worse, understand it could be a number of things but most likely the turbo??

I will get this double checked before any work but i have found a second hand turbo on a 2006 model, can these be fitted to my 2004 without any fuss? There after £195+vat with a 90 day warranty, presume reconditioning or a new one is alot more!

Thought reconditioning would cost more than the second hand one am looking at?

Yep - sent mine to Turbo Technics when the wastgate disc came detached. Worth a call to them to see if they deal with that particular turbo. They may not do reconditioned units as such of that model, but they should still be able to fix any issues with it and then rebalance it. It may cost a bit more than a second hand one, but you'll be getting it rebalanced to a tolerance far higher than when it came out of the factory!, and if it has a bearing and seal service (if needed) then it'll be practically as good as new - almost. The second hand one you may get could end up packing in after a few months - you just don't know. Do you know how many miles the second hand one has on it?

Before you start thinking about replacing/removing turbos you really need to be sure that it's the turbo at fault.

Will drop by my local garage to rule out anything simple before i do any work, but having read the related posts on here am quite sure its the turbo, have checked the filter box and connecting pipes aren't blocked.

The 2006 donar car had done 16k but if the turbo is different i best look else where!

Whats the typical price for turbo-technics fixing this turbo and whats the worst case it could be??

    Vehicle : Vauxhall Vectra

I recently contacted Turbo Technics as I has an issue with Vanes sticking in the turbo and it was going to cost 175 + VAT to be done or 245 + VAT for bearing and seal done too. Although they won't be able to give an exact price until they know exactly what is wrong with it. (they have tested it).

Fantastic company with a very good rep.

Just got the latest from the garage, 'checked it front and back and theres play in it, 99% needs a new turbo' ?

Part only from vaux is £1200+VAT and my garage wants 6 hours to fit!!!!!

Can these turbos be reconditioned, garage advised this type of turbo has a bad history when repaired and even said he wouldnt want to fit it unless it was new.

Is it even worth shopping round for a second hand one, these are rare and the chances of a finding a relativley good one must be close to nil.

Any ideas on how i can solve this or save on the repairs??

    2004 Vectra 3.0 CDTI.

    How much for a turbo?!!!

Give Turbo Technics a ring. They reconditioned my turbo in my 2.0T when it had a glitch in it (wastegate disc on the inside came off).

AFAIK it's a Garret turbo in yours as well, and whilst they will deal with a number of makes they specialise in Garrets. If they deal with the model you have, they'll be reconditioned and rebalanced to a finer tolerance than when they came out of the factory!

I think the line about repaired ones having a bad history is just that - a line to get you to buy a new one.
