    Default Corrie - Johnny Briggs

I’ve not watched Corrie for many many years but was laid on the settee the other evening and couldn’t be bothered to turn over when it came on (well that’s my excuse)…..

    I was stunned!!!

Johnny Briggs portrayal of Mike Baldwin struck down with Alzheimer's disease was one of the most powerful and poignant pieces of acting I’ve seen for many years. The vacant smile was haunting and his performance captured the reality of this condition perfectly. I found it spellbinding!

A superb bit of writing, and a magnificent acting performance – certainly worth a look – even for those to “snooty” to watch a soap!!!

I too was 'fortunate' enough to see this episode of Corrie as the better half always watches it. As we were having our dinner I was a bit of a captive audience lol, normally I sneak off onto here!!

I'm afraid I thought the opposite. Knowing somebody who has suffered from Alzheimers for years, all I can say is that I think that Johnnie Briggs didn't do anywhere near enough research/character analysis. I didn't think it was a great performance at all.

Fair play to the writers though for bringing this storyline in.

Certainly a difference of opinion here.......mind you, I enjoy "Carry-On" films so maybe I'm no judge of acting ability!!!

It was enough to bring tears to my wifes eyes who grandma died with it a few years ago. It may not have been Jonnys performance that stirred people, but rather it served as a memory jogger of loved ones who suffer/suffered from it.

That's why I said fair play to the writers for bringing it into the storyline.

...and that's where we obviously have different opinions - as we're both entitled to.

I applaud the writers/producers for bringing in such a storyline. I've seen someone deteriorate over the years with Alzheimers and it is heartbreaking, particularly for the immediate family.

What I was getting across was that for such an important storyline and subject, the actor (Johnny Briggs) really could have done a far better job of it and done a bit more research to portray it more realistically - what he did just wasn't realistic. In fact, it was very poor (in my opinion after seeing it in real life).

Me too, and we'll have to agree to disagree. Can't believe I'm getting into a 'debate' about some Corrie acting! lol

    Cheers Duncan,
I suppose it depends how “general” we define “general chat"!.....and I do enjoy seeing just how these non-VX related odd-ball threads can still generate a good few postings!
