Default What brakes do I have???

Hi there, just seen the 314mm brakes for sale... So got a question about mine. I've got a 54 Plate Signum 2.0T Design, what brakes do I have? 302mm or something else? How would the 314mm improve my braking, please, I'm a complete dunce when it comes to technical car stuff, so as basic as possible please! LOL

You should have 302's. Many guys have gone from 302's to 314's and they say the difference is night and day.

Bigger brakes = more surface area for the pads to grip onto, so in theory the braking should be much better

Get the 314's on with Police spec pads and you will feel like you never had brakes on before.
    They are a big improvement.
    Merikito's are a bargain.
I'd have had them but i've got a year's brake cover on mine then i'll do them.

Not 100% sure, but I think the surface area used by the pads on the 314mm disks is the same as the 302s. The extra retardation comes from the fact the pads sit further away from the hub, given the larger diameter of the disks, hence they exert more leverage. I'm sure someone can tidy this up with a few more physics terms and mention of fulcrums, Newton and Brunel....

Where do you get the polics spec pads from, cos the standard ones from VX are abysmal

Vx sell them, but they are just mintex pads rebranded.

That's exactly what I did and even going from the 302's that are on the 2.0T as standard, the difference is very noticeable. Guys going from the 285's on other models to 314's must be peeling their faces off the screen whilst they get used to the extra stopping power!

As touched on above, the extra braking force comes from the discs being larger and therefore more stopping force being applied as the force is being applied further out - kinda like a lever effect in simple terms. Plus the pads are bigger so more contact area with the disc.

As Big Sig said the Police spec pads can be bought from the dealer.

All 2.0T's need 314mm brakes if you can stretch to them. Even more so if they've had a power hike like a remap. I've very recently seen what a difference they can make when I had to stop quicker than I expected to. The 302's wouldn't have stopped me as quickly. The pads are bigger, and the brakes bite like mad once they are bedded in. You can tell how much more effective they are by the speed with which they kill the power for example when you need to slow down on a fast-flowing motorway. Way way more than the 302's.

i'm guessing from the replies that this is a straight swap...?? From the 285's or 302's....?
