    Default Interior footwell lights?

I have got a pair of LED strip lights that I want to fit under the glovebox and above the pedals to give footwell lighting. I want them to mimic what the interior courtesy lights do. Come on when you unlock or open the door and then dim but I also want them to come on if I put the interior lights on. I have bought the upgrade map lights and have connected the wiring for the rear interior light. My question is what do I connect to on the map light so that the LEDs mimic the interior lights? The LEDs have a positive and a negative but the map light has a positive, negative and switched negative?

Any help would be most appreciated

Hi Steven, I had thought of that but when i looked at the circuit board for the interior light it is only the permanent positive that goes to and through the bulb fittings. The earths go into the part with the switches.

YES.. in electronics there are no earth's going to a bulb ... only to the switch.. this is right

Pick any light bulb in your house and you will see the same.. only to connector points

the earth is to protect you.. not the bulb so it stops at the switch or the housing of a light

so, with that in mind.. soldering to the terminals is right.. and easier.

P.s i am an electrician by trade so im not just guessing

Hi Stephen, I didn't mean to offend you I just couldn't figure out how it would work, so if I solder a positive feed to the circuit board positive and just run the earth/ground from my leds to any body ground will this work? I have connected the leds to the switched -ve and 12v reference at the moment but i have yet to fit them. There are 4 wires on the circuit board. Perm -ve(brown/white), 12v Ref(brown), Switched -ve(blue/red) and the dimming signal (grey). Obviously the leds only have a +ve and -ve. I just don't know what -ve to connect to, to get the leds to mimic the interior light i.e coming on when you unlock and open the doors and dimming but also staying on when you press the switch to turn on the interior lights.

Yeh.. solder to the switched positive at the light and ground the negative anywhere on the chasis

Just a quick update. I have put in my rear interior light and my footwell lights and they are all working perfectly, I connected my leds to the switched negative (brown/white) and the permanent positive (brown) and they mimic the interior light perfectly.
