    Default Brake feel?

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the brake feel I am experiencing.

Now I dont think there is anything wrong with the brakes but they travel a little way (approx 1/3 to 1/2 brake pedal travel) before full brake effect is felt. Like normal brakes, nothing unusual.

However, having just had some other warranty work done and having borrowed courtesy cars (Zafira and Astra both '08 with approx 7K miles), these cars brakes had a vicious initial bite and full brake effect at very little pedal movement. Now my car is a 2008 '57 plate Veccy with 17K miles on it, so I would have thought the brake feel would have been similar.

    Anybody got any ideas.
    Cheers
    Andy

This is one of those difficult to understand things!!!! I can only tell you how ours feel.

Our pads have been on since I bought the car at 14250 miles and the car has now done 46000 miles.

Hardly any travel before some vicious bite and hefty stopping power.

It has got worse over the last 6,000 miles, but my mechanic has said there is some life in the brakes. They need changing soon.

Ours sound more like the Zafira you've had and your Vec doesn't sound right. But every car is different!

I know exactly what you mean - and I would say your car is right. MY OH drives an Astra with cheapo aftermarket discs & pads, and she has exactly what you said the courtesy cars had - sharp bite with very little pedal travel, but no real change in brake force if you press the pedal any further.

FWIW 17k will often see off a set of rear pads on the Vectra C - maybe worth having a quick look at them?

My rear pads lasted to 75K miles.

As it's under warranty, go and see your dealer and get it checked out. Aren't brake pads covered for 12 months??

Only on network Q - Had my Vec-C for 11 months from new and it has done 34,000 miles and eventually went to Quick fit - £196 rear pads and disks as opposed to £298 for VX main dealer.
