Left Dashboard Chrome strip removal ?

Seem to have occasional slight noise coming from the area of the left dash chrome strip, noise stops when I press on strip. So I'd like to remove it to investigate. (the longer one in front of passenger)

I read in the How-2 that it just clips on, but I've tried carefully pulling with out any joy, If I pull any harder its going to scrap the strip.

So whats the secret in removing this strip on a 56 plate vec-c.

Anyone know?

open the passenger door and start at that end, pull hard in the direction of the seat, it will come, just have confidence, you'll do well to snap anything. HTH

You can either pull it or do what I did - if you drop the glovebox you can get to the back of the clips, with a small pair of pliers you can squeeze the clip together and push it back into the car - this will give it a head start and it will be easier to pull off.

Cheers guys I'll give it another go. I think I was doing it from the other end, just worried in case I bent it in the process of removing.

If it still seems a bit stubborn, I'll try method 2 squeezing in the clips after glovebox is removed. May have to do this as it does seem secured well.

The easiest way is to open the glovebox and get your finger tips under the lower edge, a swift pull away from dash and upwards will half release it, then simply pull it away from the dash. Reduces chances of damage to almost nil. that's how I have removed mine on a few occasions

PULL hard but use your common sense, too hard and you may snap something, like I said start from the passenger door end and you should be fine. Let us know how you get on,

Disaster!!

This one is not held on with clips, at the back of the strips are ten round plastic protusions which go through the dash and is melted over at the back. IOW not designed to be clipped off.

In hind site it may have been possible to remove glovebox and cut away the bits that were melted over, anyway a bit late now.

I unfortunately damaged the strip in process of removing, there's 2 slight kinks in the front of it, so I just hope I can get a replacement to put back on.
Ah well, at least the noise has stopped...

Well that's a new one!! As the guys above said it used to only just be spring clips that held it on and a good tug (ooer) would have it off (ooer again).

What a bummer! That was the whole strip that was fixed like that?, not just the different coloured 'insert' bit that some models have?

Ah.... Think we were talking about different strips here, the one I was refering to ' is the chrome insert itself' you are saying that the complete strip that the chrome insert attaches to comes away.... oooops..

A new strip is £24-? + vat, thought it was dear just for a bit of plastic chrome strip.
