Default New Corsa - which engine

Looking at buying a new shape corsa design model around summertime either with the 1.3cdti or the 1.7cdti. Sitting in traffic all day for 60 miles and feel i could save a fortune in fuel over the vec.

Anybody got experience of these engines? The 1.7 is a 125bhp with bags of torque and has 5 stud wheels so could me made to look quite a tidy car.
I would get one with the climate control, flex fix bike carrier and sight and light pack and get it in white with irmy grille and front spoiler set of 18" alloys probably in anthracite and a vxr rear spoiler and darker tailights if i sold the vec though it will be paid off so i may keep it.

My dad has just got a black 1.3 cdti SXI looks smart with the kit on he also has a 1.1 petrol breeze in black which is std both new shape. But the diesel is giving him 65mpg plus. Great little motor and looks good.

    .
I'm driving a courtesy car, 58 plate 1.3cdti Corsa today while my cars being serviced. Only drove it about 25 mile so far, but the engine does not seem too bad at all, and pulls fairly well for a small engine. what I noticed instantly was it was pretty quiet on tickover for a diesel, I wondered whether it was petrol at first, though the car is much louder generally than the vec once on the open road, . Rides not too bad though, seems much higher up than the vec.
Its all right, but not really for me I dont think, I prefer larger cars.

Rather than starting a new thread, I thought I would post here. Since the last post, has anybody had any experience with the 1.7CDTi Corsa D? I am looking at one on autotrader and it looks like a nice tidy motor. I've already worked out that with a remap, it would nearly be as powerful as the Vectra (power to weight ratio only). I've googled remaps and people are saying they can get 150-160bhp - is this right? I'm slowly using my Vectra less and less and the fiancée won't be using her Fiesta much soon either. It seems pointless having two cars on the drive, paying finance on them and never using them.

Seen more than a few 1.3 cdti's with broken camshafts, snapped clean through due to poor casting, they do seem to suffer with lolts of niggles, 1.7 all the way for me.

I have seen several road tests of the corsa where it says avoid the 1.7, the 1.3 is a good drive and good on mpg, BUT it costs a lot more than the small petrol, unless you do over 17,000 miles a year the sums dont add up, I would go for a 1.4, but NOT the sxi as the ride is very very harsh, just done a price check the 1.7 is very expensive you can get some serious cars for thet sort of dosh that do the same mpg, I only know one person with the 1.7 corsa, not happy with mpg around town, 50s mpg,, in a test the 1.7 only did 4 mpg better than the 1.4 around town,
