    Default Moving home - BT.

Moving house on friday. Dont people try and take advantage? Called Sky earlier on, they initially asked for 40 quid but after a five minute rant I got free new installation AND half price line rental for 3 months to apologise for "upsetting" me! (And they are coming on Saturday so no need to miss my daytime tv lol)

British Telecom, thats a different matter. Apparently as there is no BT line at the address at the moment, even though there is with neighbours, they want 100 quid to install it.

I asked if the fact that I spend on average 500 quid a year for the last five years made a difference? He said no basically.

I asked on average how many people accepted this, he said "well most people need a BT line so they pay it".

Told em to stuff it, its nice to have a home phone but with 2 mobiles kicking around the house with loads of talk time each month I don't actually need to be held to ransom!

    Thats it, rant over!

It was like that for me... I purchased a new build property which had never had a BT line connected - they wanted £75 to come out and connect the line. Because I needed it for my Internet connection, I paid it.

The morning of my installation, got a text message from them saying that they weren't sending an engineer to connect my line, that it was being done remotely.

I rang them back to ask if, since no engineer was called out, the installation fee no longer applied. "It does, because we still connected your line for the first time..." was the reply. The very cheek of it! I wouldn't have minded so much if someone had actually had to make any effort to connect the line, instead of being robbing muppets...

We just changed from NTL (dont get me started) to BT. The house had BT line about 5 years ago. They said that they would charge me £75 if an engineer was needed. He was, but they never charged us?!?

No mate, there isn't cable. I've heard bad things about NTL, besides, I already check and they dont cover the road as its relatively new.

Broadband... hadn't thought of that. There is half a dozen open networks there as I went over with the laptop the other day. Poses a moral question though I guess.

Pass, I think is the answer. Must be about time Sky did broadband? Seems logical progression....

Ok, to get satelite internet, or indeed satelite, you still need a land-line for the uplink. If you wanted to use Box Office or PPV on Sky, your box would need to be connected to a phone line, for the internet you need a phone line for your computer to send info (such as your posts on here) and requests upline to the server.

The *******s at BT have you either way.

spikeys right i'm afraid... sky and internet need BT.
i'm finding this out at the moment becuase sky won't come an install anything unless you have a phone line (you may get away with it with already having the equipment etc)
as for internet... i use my neighbours lol
although they are the future in-laws so they don't mind.

Oh............. but when I spoke to Sky today and arranged the installation today I told them I hadn't organised the new land line yet and they said no problem........... might be time to call em back and check....

You guys sure you dont just need the landline if you want all the interavtive malarky - maybe you dont need it just for bog standard viewing..
