Default question for mlc or others in the know

Yet again our house has been clipped by a lorry and it didnt stop.

This time i jumped in car and went after it, when behind the lorry i called the police using factory fitted hands free, the first thing nottinghamshire police asked when on the phone was "are you driving" yes i replied although im on hands free can i give you the reg of this lorry thats hit our hour (and caused damage) and failed to stop. they replied "you shouldnt be driving and on the phone then hung up.

First of all i thought in certain cases using a phone whilst driving IS permited and secondly thought its not yet an offence for someone to use hands free.

In the end the lorry carried on failing to stop and i couldnt get close enough to safely take reg.

Now our house is damaged and our own money is going to have to pay insurance excess to claim on our policy.

"GREAT SERVICE NOTTS POLICE glad to know all that money is going to a service thats there for people."

    Disclaimer

This is not a rant at any members who happen to be officers, but look at it from my point of view

    Jeez that's not good.

Just on the hands free bit I've reported two accidents to the police (Cheshire) both on hands free and both times they were happy to keep talking to me until the location was established.

I had the same problem with notts police. Used to live down there for many years. Had an incident where a car pulled out a side road and took off my front bumper and drove off. Reported it to Newark police, reg and everything, and they didn't want to know and told me to sort it out myself

    Hi CraigBarlow18,

I'm a serving Officer with West Mids, and I've called up my own control room a few times on handsfree. Its not illegal to use handsfree/bluetooth/loudspeaker. It is very poor service of the Notts Control room to diconnect you, especially as you'd clarified you were on handsfree.

Did you manage to get the company name of the vehicle that hit your house? Ask about for some CCTV from neighbours, nearby shops etc to see if that helps identify the company or better still the driver.

I'm guessing that you might live in a village and since Sat-Nav, you've had a fair few of these large lorries driving down narrow roads. Get in touch with your local council, see if they can put up some height and width awareness signs ahead of your house.

    Good Luck mate!
