    Default Morning all :D

    Hello

I have been looking into getting a vectra C and am now stuck between the 1.9CDTI and the 2.0DTi I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers/differences between the two.

I am not a stranger to the Vauxhall range, having a corsa (1.2 first car ) 4 astra mk4's (1.7TD, 1.4, 1.6, 2.0) used to be apart of the AOC and finally a vectra B (1.8) all been good cars, some more than others but I am a general Vauxhall fan (cant seem to get away form them)

I will only be using the car for motorway driving (visiting family etc) and the occasional trip to the country’s side at the weekend, overall no more than 4,000 miles a year.

All help is grateful, and look forward to hearing off everybody

    Thanks

    Adz

    Firstly

I suppose the first question to ask is why are you looking at a diesel if you're only doing 4,000 miles a year? With the significant extra cost of diesel over petrol you'd have to do a lot more mileage to make the use of the economy of a diesel, not to mention the extra cost of buying the diesel car in the first place.

    Hi

Well I was looking at getting a diesel because my family is over 200 miles away so I thought it would be better for the long motorway runs (if I can get 45+ MPG) and the second thing is the Tax for 2009 onwards stays around £155 where as other engines cars are going to rise upwards of £400 per year (Obviously not every car), I do like the idea of petrol and the punch that it can give you , just for what I need it for may become impractical

I would go for the 1.9cdti, more performance and economy, I have a 120 cdti which has ample performance, cruises effortlessly on motorways and is very relaxed driving, drove from Preston (lancashire) to Exmouth this summer on just over half a tank of fuel, averaging 50 mpg, car was fully loaded as well. I purchased my 54 plate 'life' model on ebay 5 months ago for 3K. It has got 92K on clock but was a reps car and came with full service history. I've seen an 05 plate vectra exactly the same as mine go for less money on ebay £2954 to be exact. I think the 2.0 dti cannot match the 1.9 on economy or performance and do appear to suffer pump/injector seal issues. I was in the same predicament as you and glad I got the 1.9.

I'm a 2.2DTI Owner and between the two types you mention 2.0DTI and 1.9CDTI I would choose the 1.9CDTI.

The 1.9CDTI comes in two forms 120 and 150 which relate to hosepower (the 150 having more and being faster etc...)

From what you've said If I was you I'd be on the lookout for a 1.9CDTI 120 if you want a diesel but really for 4,000 miles per year then you should look at a petrol model as this will be more cost effective for the mileage.

    Bri.
just done a quick calculation on the figures of the 1.9cdti and the 1.8 petrol and on a 400 mile trip (normal visit to the family)

refrance from parkers for the mpg (please let me know if this is diffrent in real l life as it could effect the choices I make when I come to buy my car

    1.9CDti
    50 mpg
    11.1 mpl (miles per liter)
    £1.05 per liter
    = £37.83

    1.8
    37 mpg
    8.2 mpl (miles per liter)
    £0.97 per liter
    = £47.31

    Also take into account Tax
    1.9 - 08 = £145 / 09 = £150 / 10 = £155
    1.8 - 08 = £170 / 09 = £175 / 10 = £200

saying all that I know the petrol has much better "punch" when driving it, but diesel engines are more sturdy, ahhhhh this is getting difficult lol

    to the forum

I use my Vectra just like you want too (see my family miles away

Just today i averaged 50 mpg it could have been a lot more but i was in a rush & i like the power (300 mile trip)

Usually i average about 45 mpg 10 mile trip to work 50/50 A roads & town

if you want "punch" get the CDTI 150

its way faster than my mates Vectra 1.8 sri
