    Default 335d's turbo blown

Blimey, our bmw 335d started spewing it's oil in the middle of Birmingham on Friday.

The guy limped to Halfords & topped it up again then went straight to the dealer.

The dealer says a turbo needs replacing & they need the car for a week.

He's got a courtesy car - a vec 1.8 SRI in pannacotta (spelling??), I've just driven it & it's a really nice car.

The 1.8 doesn't feel under powered round town & is very smooth, with a nice exhaust note.

I told him at least its a nice step up from his beemer, I can't type his reply but the second word was off!

For somebody who owns a 335d to say that a 1.8 Vec is good and not underpowered around town is praise indeed.

Especially when you can buy the 1.8 VVT for around £5999 with under 10k miles on the clock

BM's diesels are a nightmare for popping turbos. Girl I work with had had 5 turbos in her 320d in 2 years.

I should clarify as the way I posted wasn't too clear , the car isn't mine, they're my opinions after I drove the vec (I've never driven a 1.8 & was expecting it to be really sluggish, but it wasn't).

The 335 guy is also impressed by the vec though, he says it's a bit low on power (almost everything is compared to a 335!!), but otherwise surprisingly comfortable & a nice drive.

I'm happy with my 1.8, even after coming from a 200hp Astra 1.9CDTi.

Haven't had a diesel BM yet, but on my third 6 cyl petrol one now. Other two passed 200k without any issues.
So far BMW is my choice for reliability - still have the CDTI at the moment, but electrical reliability issues and a failed windscreen wiper have been disappointing to say the least.
My old Cavalier SRI - now that was a reliable workhorse
