    Default p1ss taking insurance company

My 05 elite cdti 150 was written off last week and been waiting for a call from AIG with an offer (fully comp)
I got a letter this morning with a cheque for £3300! what a **** take, surely if i insured it for a value of £5k and it is booking at 5k anyway i should get that? I'll be calling them monday, where do i stand here?

They have final disgretion on vehicle value as they have valuators that check it out, if you had anything undeclared as well that will go against you. No harm in ringing them and have a "polite word" they might increase their offer but thats doubtful

No mods whatsoever, how can any valuer think that it is worth £3300 though, surely the whole point of fully comp is that they give you the value of your car so you can buy another one. Where will i find the same spec car for £3grand?

No fully comp is all about the protection you get, no insurance company will pay out your valuation of a car as most people value it very high or put what they paid for it down

Gather some advertisements of similar cars to yours same miles spec etc. and use that against the insurers to show they haven't paid enough out

    2004/54 1.9 CDTi

Give them that advert. Mileage is offset by it being older than yours and the screen is mono, and I'm not even clear if it has nav although it has the roof aerial that may be DAB?

    And it's up at £4k.

I used to work for Swinton Car Insurance (not in the claims department, but in Customer Service and Complaints handling), and even when you purchase an insurance policy and state that your car has £XYZ value, most if not all insurers will give your car a "market value".

I agree, that amount seems lower than it should be, and you can contest it. But they will only increase it by a small amount, if any.

On the topic of giving you the amount of money that your car was worth to buy one like-for-like, that only happens in some cases where the vehicle insured is less than 6 months/1 year old. In that case, you will either get the cash or a replacement car.

Unfortunately.. I think you might be stuck with the offer

they should have made an offer to you b4 sending a cheque out.

gather local ads with the age , milage and spec of your car then get the average value.

ALLAWAYS REFUSE FIRST OFFER but allways take third offer it is normally their final offer.
