    confused Strange 1.9 CDTi Issue

Well, I posted a thread 'HHHEEELLLPP!! 1.9CDTi Broken'the other day. Been out to my car this morning (with a hammer and a rag) and tried to identify my Smokey Engine issue.
Ive read loads of other threads which have highlighted common problems
    - Injector Issues
    - EGR Valve sticking (Repaired under warranty nearly two years ago)
    - Swirl Valve failing (Repaired at £900+)

Couldnt decide what colour smoke was so had a good look around engine and found a strange problem you might be able to hep me with. I found a loose breather pipe that connects the downpipe from the Mass Air meter (from air box) to a cylindrical black device next to the EGR valve (just to the left as you look at the engine from the front). This just rattles around its that loose.

As my car is now fairly free revving, I decided to brave the roads and see if I could drive the car to the stealers.

When I irst went out I could see a fair amount of smoke from exhaust and after about quarter of a mile, decided to turn round and head home just incase. Out of frustration I booted it which resulted in a big cloud of black smoke then nothing. All signs of smoke have disappeared. Went round the block a few times, switched engine off and restarted it without problem.
It is still fairly hesitant until turbo winds up but then it flies.

As my other post said, my car had been sat for over a week and I was wondering if something had stuck and my frustrated right foot has just cleared it.

At the moment, the car is booked into stealers next week. Its not smoking any more, still fairly hesitant until turbo wind up and for some reason the temp guage is very reluctant to move (dont know if thats related or not).

If any one else has had similar issues, please give me an heads up. Dont want to get ripped off.

Check the connection with the temperature sender, maybe use some switch cleaner. If the temperature gauge is giving out the wrong temperture this will effect the running of the engine.

Has the "car with spanner light" come on at all?

Also check this post out http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62925

You may have a problem with injector no.3 which is intermittent as per above thread.

    Check boost pipes for leaks/splits

Are you doing low/town mileage? If you are I would suggest cleaning the EGR Valve, there is an easy to follow guide on the forum which I used to help me remove and clean mine

Where is the temp sensor plug located? Will give this a clean. Also, which is the injector plugs? Is it the ones at the front of the engine (black square connector with yellow lock) or the inboard ones (circular pen shaped connector). The latter of no3 has lost its clickiness and disconnects very easily.

No3 is the issue, suffers from corrosion. Get the plug repair kit and that should sort the problem. The injectors are the front row, numbered 1-4 from left to right as you look at the engine from the front. Any "car and spanner" light?

Would cleaning the EGR valve help make the car a bit more responsive in lower revs or make the turbo cut in a bit quicker ?

not getting any warning lights, just lumpy performance. EGR valve was replaced last feb (07) so should not need cleaning but may give it a go. Is replacing loom worthwhile?

Should be on the left hand side of engine on the thermostat housing
You will have to take the Plastic Engine cover off to see it

Sorted temp issue out, now getting a reading of around 85 degrees. Car was smokey again and struggling to rev this morning. It has been sat for a few days though. Let her warm up which helped and tok her for a spin.
Still reluctant to rev freely but flies once turbo kicks in. MPG also poor.
Taking her to the steelers now for it to be looked at. Will keep you posted.

Once fixed im selling her. Had enough now.
