My vectras first breakdown

It is 2.00 am, and I am on my way home,stopped at a road junction and there I sat for the next hour and a half car was as dead as a dodo with the rain tipping it down.The recovery came from Ipswich to were I was in Chelmsford,did a couple of tests to find that there was no charge going into the battery,I did not see or notice any warning lights at all,so it looks like a new alternator and possible battery as well,got home at 4.15am.Now will have to get my local garage rather than the local stealers to come and get the car and do what has to be done,this will please the missus I will have to use her new Corsa.

sorry to hear that mate if it is the altenator id try going somewhere other than the stealer they will rob you blind

Car is with my local garage,not the stealer....Problem the only place where they can get the alternator from is the stealer £336 + vat .
At the moment they are trying to track one from another source,whichever way no car untill at least monday.
I am now going on internet to see what I can find.
Any body know the part no for the 1.9 cdti 120 ?

Yep, happened to me too. The alternators on the Vectra are complete junk. These "Denso" parts they use on the car are atrocious, unfortunately.
However, sometimes they can be repaired by auto-electrical places. The "rectifier" was the only thing kaput on mine, and is in perfect running order now for £75.
Who knows what might go on the alternator next though.... but having it repaired was a chance I was willing to take. £400-odd just for the part for mine, quoted from dealers - and it's a pig of a job to fit it.

speak to the stealers my car went in for fault diagnosis completely different problem and they said my alternator was part of a recall and was done free of charge and mine was a 54 plate 1.9cdti 120
