    Default How Heavy is Diesel

    Driving into Birmingham with my mates on Saturday when I pulled into BP Petrol station for more fuel.

    Now I always fill my car to the top, as I cant stand the idea of running out of fuel. My mate looked across and asked why do I fill the car up when all it does is slow the car down and wastes fuel.

    What!!

    He then went on to explain that filling the car up means you carry a lot more weight, which slows the car down and therefore uses more fuel to carry the extra fuel. Sort of made sence, which then made me think.

    Diesel has a higher viscocity that Petrol which means it must be more dense than Petrol.

    So how much does a full tank of Diesel weigh ?? and then how much difference does it weigh compared to a full tank of Petrol ??

    Go on, someone impress me

    ok I'm sad and nowt better to do, so--

    1 litre of pertol = 0.737Kg
    1 litre of diesel = 0.900Kg (depending on grade)

    so for a 50 litre tank =

    petrol = 36.861Kg
    diesel = 45Kg

    so a tank of diesel is approx 8.139Kg heavier than Petrol

    taadaaa!!!!!!!!!!

    slows your car, hah;
    it cant slow a diesel car, cause it has a lot of torque.
    Maybe a petorl car will feel the difference though...
