I thought it may be a good idea to get a list together of Droning Tyres

Usual cause of excessive tyre noise is where they have been left on the rear axle for a long time, only the front tyres have been renewed a few times
I'm still trying to find the cause, and it's not the tyres!
Two solutions are :
Renew the front tryes as they wear, swapping the rears to the fronts, the new tyres then go on the rear
Swap tyres rear-front at least every three months

Goodyear NCT 5's - awful noise , cr8p performance
Avon ZV3 - really quiet, but wore unevenly, good mileage though

Federal Super Steel SS 595 - You wouldn't believe how loud these are !! (215/50/17)
Kumho Ecsta Sport - Very Quiet (225/45/18)

Droning noise from REAR wheels (sounds like wheel bearings, but when jacked up and spun there is no noise!!).
Tyres are wearing quite evenly, so do not understand where the droning noise is coming from--except that it is certainly from the rear wheels!
Can anyone advise??

My car does this but I put it down to Goodyear F1's being on the back, but last week I had some put on the front and thought that the noise would get worse but it still comes from the back

Goodyear F1s all round. Terrible drone from the back - bearings have been checked and are fine. Swapped the tyres front-back, still noisy. Great grip though.

Excessive tyre noise is due to the compound, nothing to do with being left on the rear axle for any length of time! What complete tosh! What reasoning/physics explains that one? On second thoughts, don't or I'll lose the will to live!

Yep, recommended practice by tyre manufacturers whether it's a front or real wheel drive car.

Not really necessary, and not recommended these days, as you'll end up with the tread on the rears being lower more quickly, when you really want as much tread on the rears as possible.

As others have said, NCT5's are really bad. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 are really good.

i can vouch for this i have 2 federals on mine which sound awfull as soon as i hit 40 and over, cant wait to change them!!!
