Unhappy ave i bought a wrongen?

    Hi all
Just need a bit of advice, just bought an 04 3.2 V6 Elite, the problem, was having a look around the engine today and horror of horror , i took the oil filler cap off and there was a bit of mayo around. The water is clean, the oil looks ok, ie no water droplets on the dipstick, my concern is has one of the head gaskets gone?, the bloddy thing has only done 38k.

The service book is all stamped up (looks genuine), as you can imagine im a bit p***ed.

On the way home from work i was watching the temp gauge, i got stuck in traffic and it went up to halfway, didnt get past that then went down.

    am i being paranoid

    any help apprechiated

Kev - the 4" oil filler pipe can be removed, just by twisting it as you would the oil filler cap. Then replace the cap directly on to the hole the filler pipe was in.

How many miles ago was the last service? Me personally, I always change the oil when I get a "new" motor. That way at least you know what's in there and you have a reference point from which to work from.

If you go down this route and don't want to use a dealer or DIY, give me a shout and I'll see if I can help out.

Regarding the temp gauge movement, what temps did it go up to and then back down to?

Glenboy and Vectragsi3.2, i thank you , i have been feeling so stupid, normaly before i bought a car i would look in every hole and orific, but for some reason as it was a bit of a flashy dealer i didnt bother, i do have a warranty but still. thye car is mint and goes like a rocket, nothing fits with anything wrong, another reason i felt a bit relaxed when i bought it, again, cheers guys.

Thanks for advice, last service was @35k in march, now on just below 38k, again normaly i would get oil changed, i think i will, got reliable garage up the road from me so will use them, thanks for offer m8.

Temp, went to 80 then in trafic went up another 2 notches (notch before 90), might take a bit more notice of it tomorrow, will advise better tomorrow, my vectra b did the same, ie went up and down. thanks again

On "normal" days and mixed driving, mine hovers between 85 and 88ish. On cold days, knock about 2 or 3 degrees off the above figures. I'd say yours is fine . Mine also warms up very quickly from cold, not on the temp gauge (as it only starts at 80), but get warm air in the car after about a mile of driving. The heated seats help as well.

Yes mate as above , just remove the oil cap and then twist the filler neck and pull upwards . Job done.
