Default Found a use for traction control

theres about 2inches thick of snow here in Glasgow, roads are appalling and folks doing 2mph and veering all over the place,

then we appear in the vec with its minted grip, slowly but surely get over the worst of it thanks to the traction control, flashing at us constantly on and off.

    good old Vauxhall.

Wish we had some good snow, some may say that birmingham is so boreing that the snow falls else where. Looks like I will have to drive some distance to give mine a go in the snow.. Glad the Traction Control worked though.. Did you try out your ABS on a safe strech of road I am sure they even stop quicker in the snow??. than a non ABS car.

Don't think they do stop quicker. Common wisdom concerning this is that a non ABS car builds a wedge of snow in front of the wheel as it skids which helps stop the car. Audi touted this as the reason their early cars had switchable ABS systems.
ABS will release the wheel that locks, it takes forever to stop in any slippery conditions with ABS, it should be switchable in all cars.

I htink I have taken away the good of the TC on snow with the 235`s , the car is useless on it, I also wonder if the toyo tread pattern affects it as well ??

the brakes kept feeling like they were about to lock, although released them before they did as we were only doing about 10mph,

brakes did stop us really quick tho, which is what comes from having discs all round and 288mm's at that

actually very surprised my base spec special edition had traction control though, although vauxhall did say ALL models in all trims bar the 1.8 got it.

Triple Trouble. I agree with your theory, I too remember about Audi, But I am sure my car seems to stop quicker with ABS in the snow, Mind you Banie I would say that if you have wider tyers on then the weight of the car is distributed over a wider area [footprint] so the tyers do not "dig in" as well as a narrow tyre.

managed to get through the 6inch of snow this morning,

no throttle, just dumped the clutch and crawled out - overtook various boy racers using far too many revs and digging themselves deeper
