Default HELP: Problems with idling URGENT

Well just been for a meeting with my boss to confirm my redundancy. Get home after a 200 mile round trip and............

Come up to traffic lights and stop. Idle goes all lumpy and the car and spanner light comes on.

Drive away and no problems. come to stop and idle again and car will be fine for a short while then starts being lumpy again bringing up the car and spanner light again. Pull away all seems fine, only seems to occur when at idle.
Had a similiar problem a while back but as well the lumpy idle the car would struggle to pull away. Found the problem to be a plug fitted to the thermostat was not fitted correctly by VX when they fitted my new engine (also found 3 other plugs not fitted correctly!).

So anyways go to use the U480 scanner I got the other week and it tells me no codes are stored so that was a waste of money.

So guys any ideas or suggestions before I head off to the stealers?

I wonder if it is the air control valve or the air flow meter. I would try cleaning the air control valve first ( I use carb cleaner on the wifes vectra B).
PS I take it your motor is petrol?

Hi Ed, its a diesel 1.9 cdti 150 2005 sri

Have had the EGR Valve apart to find very little crud in it and the solenoid and spring both moving freely. According to the "how2 remove an EGR valve" there should have been two gaskets, mine only had the square one. Seems VX refitted it minus a gasket unless anyone knows any different.

Put it all back together and went for a quick drive. All fine until it warmed up a bit then it started to cough, car with spanner back on then it cut out completely while driving! Pulled over and re started it then drove home. Was out for a drive for about a mile all in.

Looks like will have to go to dealers and get them to read the code

Went out this morning to start the car and it was lumpy as hell and not driverable so called the AA man out. He had a quick look, pushed on the plug for injector 3 and it started running ok. So legged it off to the stealers while it was still running and 1/2 way there it started to play up again. Anyways its now been tech2'd and the VX Tech says code points to the injector and it needs a modified wiring harness. So they have ordered the parts and it will be done tomorrow. Would do it myself but have to get to the airport tomorrow afternoon so the harness does not cure it then in theory its in the right place to be checked over again lol

Yeah, hope you get it sorted but it looks like good old tech2 points in the right direction once again.

The more i read about all the different code readers etc out there the more I feel it's better to get tech2 to do the job (IMO).

It seems that the code is not being stored in the ECU memory for this fault as reported by TIS in the remedy. But saying that I have tried to read other codes with the U480 and it hasn't worked. It clears codes ok which is strange, but that was the main reason I brought it for anyways.

Does anybody have a working code reader for full canbus cars????
