GSD3 225/45/17, avoid the 215 rip off size.

Thing is mate, the veccy demands decent tyres, and unlike alot of things going down in price, really good performers in the wet don't come cheap, keeping the thick end of £400 aside for a tyre change is to be the norm these days.
Two tyres i'm very impressed with in the wet are Goodyear Excellence,i'm currently running these and they are superb, the next are Vredestein.
I run 225's and these are my next choice being fitted around in the spring i should imagine.
They will be around the 90 to 97 per corner mark if you can get a good price. But MORE THAN SUFFICIENT will be the Excellence, they are known as a Summer Tyre, however i'm sure your aware that's what we all mainly use year round in this country. And as their popularity has increased the price has gone down, and you should be ably to get around the 82 to 85 per corner mark.
Quiet honestly you and your passengers safety is too important for buying cheap tyres,i would heartily recommend the Goodyears.

I'm due for a new set too Sean, thinking of Goodyear Eagle Asymmetrics in 225/45/17. They are replacing the GSD3 IIRC.

I have less and less faith in the NCTs every time I go out!

Not sure how long my Falkens 912 will last - but I have had 4 put on 225/45/17 - about 260 quid fully fitted. No problems to date in wet or dry - quieter than the Goodyear NCTs - as I say only done 2580 miles - no problems.
