Rough Idling

My 07 1.9 cdti has started running rough. There is a flat spot from Idle to 1000 revs. If I hold it at 1000 revs it is so lumpy it shakes right thru the car. Also at times it is making louder than normal Nocking noise. Any idea what this could be, I would like to go to the Dealers armed with some info to avoid being fobbed off with " Oh thats normal Sir" as is usually the case

Difficult to accurately diagnose but it's sounding like it may be the DMF (dual mass flywheel).

What are other symptoms of failing DMF as it does not have any rattles as described in other threads

Well the judder that you describe is a main symptom - and if it's doing that out of gear then it's ruling out some other things.

With it out of gear, if you rev it a bit so that it stops shaking and then lift your foot off and let the revs drop, do you get a bit of a judder as the revs drop back down to the idle range?

If so, it is sounding like a DMF. The rattle/banging you mention happens in the more advanced stages of a DMF failure so the absence of those doesn't rule out a DMF issue.

The DMF is a known issue, but you wouldn't think you'd have it already on an 07 car! But as it's under warranty best bet is to throw it back at the dealer and say you're pretty sure it's the DMF - a known problem on these cars.

The nocking I referred to is more like a louder diesel Knock than a rattle, also if I sit with my foot on the brake pedal out of gear the shaking gets worse. Either way I think its off to the dealers

Did we get an outcome from November 2008...?

Problem with a lot of threads on here is that most people get the car fixed, and just leave the thread open...

It would help the rest of use to rule out or persue fault diagnosis on others experiences..

hmm mines just started to shake a little.... can't be flywheel on mine (I hope!) as it was changed 5k miles ago just before I bought it.

it might have something to do with getting spray paint in the MAF on the weekend come to think of it....
