    Default tyre repair????

I just went to get my tyre repaired. it had a screw in it. I was told it can't be repaired as it had what looked like black dust/black sand inside of it. The bloke in national said i'd need a new one. I'm just a bit gutted as it was a brand new tyre.

Can anyone telll me if this is true. That the tyre was useless because of this dust/sand stuff?

The hole in the tyre must have only been 3-4 mm dia.

I don,t know about the sand stuff unless as said above, and you have damaged the sidewall. Where was the puncture as there is a limit to where it can be repaired.

Shouldnt make a difference as far as I am aware.

The only time a puncture hasnt been repairable on one of my punture's was whent the chap said that it was too close to the edge and rendered it unsafe.

He did say that he could do it, but hold no resposibility.

If I were you, try a "round the corner" type tyre garage's, the type that do cheap part worn's and see what they say.

You may find that National just didnt want to do it ot wanted to sell you a new one.

If the other places say it cant be done, then fair do's, but if they do repair it, make sure you find out off them that it is actually safe.

The place I geta puncture done from usually drills where the puncture is before repairing it, to clean the edges and the puncture to ensure its a clean and safe repair.

    HTH!

I had to back it off the slope it was parked on to allow me to change the wheel. Guess this could have damaged the side wall. I didn't think about it at the time and just took my rim away with me, leaving the old tyre at national. I should have taken it somewhere else but oh well. I now have a part worn Goodyear eagle on it to see me through till I can get a new tyre put on.

Anyone know if goodyear eagle's are any good??? I assume so as its a goodyear.

I'mnot sure were the postis but i'd like to add national in bootle to the poor service providers. took my wheel in at 9.30 thismorning and was told itwould take 1-1 1/2 hours. Went back at 12 and it hadn't been touched and i should give them another 1/2 hour. So I went back at 1 to find it needed replacing.

The black dust is the inner skin of the tyre that has come away due to being run under inflated or flat, the inner skin keeps the air in the tyre,if it's weakened you can get air leaking into the carcass of the tyre causing it to fail. The reason National say to replace it is partly a**e covering (if it failed and caused you to have an accident) and they are a business at the end of the day,the staff have to make a living.

yeah if the black dust is inside then that's part of the tyre wall disintegration due it is being run partially or fully flat. kwik fit wouldn't repair one for me like that and i knew the guy that worked there. at the end of the day it's a pain in the a$$ but is it worth the risk? a blow out on a motorway would cause you a lot more grief than a dent in the wallet.
