Default So are you going on a spending spree with the 2.5% VAT discount ?

So will it have an effect ?

As from Monday will Poundland have to be renamed 97.5p land or do you think they will keep the money like i suspect most places will do.

I see they have stopped the VAT discount on fuel the robbing gits

Can you imagine the cost attached to retailers to amend all of their systems to the new rates / prices, not to mention the trouble that businesses will have adapting their accounting systems to the new rates. With date cut-off issues, where invoice dates matter as to what rate to use, I can see many businesses having some issues implementing the changes.

I totally agree with big neil, they should have knocked some tax off fuel as the price of fuel has knock on effect to the rest of the economy ie lower transportation costs of goods and lower costs of commuting etc etc.
Its just another ploy to get the public on the side of Labour. I dont think it will help one bit. I dont think we will see many retailers passing on the savings to their customers.

The independent retailer will not alter there prices as it will mean having to reprice all there items. The big boys will do nothing as it means they can increase their margins. So basically nothing will happen to the prices. As for having problems altering their prices the big boys already have systems in place on the tills. Look what M&S did last week 20%, Debenhams 25% off with no problems so a paltry 2.5% discount should be childs play. But they will say it isn't! If you knew the margins these stores are making then you would not cry for them if they went under esp BHS who brought an item from me for £1.20 and sold it for £10

Don't forget, they're going to increase your National Insurance contribution whilst giving you that HUGE 2.5% VAT reduction.

What they give with one hand, they take with the other.

Of course, we'll have to repay all of this borrowing one day. The proposed 45% tax rate won't make a dent in it at all.
