confused 2.0 Dti engine cuts out Signum

    I have a 2.0 Dti Signum 2004 with 32,000 miles.
Twice in the space of a month the engine has cut out & won't start again,
with the spanner light coming on when trying to re-start it.
On both occassions the engine had only been running for a few minutes before it cut out.
I leave it for a few minutes & it restarts again & then runs ok.
    (Its not due a service)
The only other problem of note, is the oil pressure light keeps flickering, but its done this for about a year without any problems. Ive been told this may be a faulty pressure sender switch....could both faults be connected?
    Or is it another problem?
    Thanks in advance

Get your car plugged into a diagnostics reader & take it from there!

I've had the car in to the garage (at work) & they spent most of the day on it. The error codes were not relevent to the fault I had, but they contacted vauxhall who said there was a technical bulletin out for this problem.
It said to change the small filter on the vacuum pipe that feeds the engine cut off valve, amongst other things.
Also to try disconnecting the vacuum pipe to the engine shut off, although this may lead to the engine 'running on' when its turned off.
So a new filter has been fitted & the vacuum pipe disconnected, & up to yet its been ok.
    Fingers crossed

Thanks so much! It fixed the issue I'd had for over a year, dealers changed the crankshaft sensor but it wasn't that.

Is it only for engine shut off? It did seem to partially open/close while the engine was on..........

    Thanks again!

    Hi Trundlebus,

I'm not too sure what the pipe does, that has been disconnected, but it has been ok since for the last 18months.

I do still keep getting the oil pressure light coming on intermittantly, on every journey though....but I just ignore it

Mine's still disconnected, it drives much better now!

It used to cut out a couple of times every few days, normally once warm. Revving seemed to fix it (probably coincidence)........ Until the next time.

It really is a nice car drive now, seems more responsive and gear changes are seamless (it sometimes felt like I was jump starting the car when the foot came off the clutch)

Is it really only a cut off flap? It did seem to move while the engine was running

there is a valve on front panel where the vac pipe goes to that is normally the culprit holds throttle shut stopping it from starting i think they are about 40-50 quid
