    Default Speed rant

is it me or has the national speed limit been reduced to 50???

No didnt think so, so why are these duddering old farts (no offence to our older members) insisting on driving at between 40 and 50 on a 60 road. I have to travel this bit of road everday and nothing changes its got potential to be a fast road theres no houses and nothing to suprise you (no hidden junctions) yet they drive so slow thing is cos of traffic from other direction you cant safely overtake neither.

If they want to pootle along everywhere buy a £$%ing electric scooter.

before anyone mentions about 50 for vans i will add these are all cars

I think people are just starting to slowdown at the moment due to the greasier road's and bad weather etc.

Its a maximum speed limit, which means the posted limit is the fastest speed you can do, not the lowest. If another driver has decided that it is safer to do a lower speed then he can, or am i missing something here??

maybe but if its causing a 15 car tailback forcing others to take risks.

Oh yeah this has been a problem for well over a year.

So in that respect can i drive through town at 10mph cos i feel its safer due to it being dark and a ped may run out.. or will i be slapped with an asbo for my car for the offence of cruising.??

Yep, you also save a ****load (that is a measurment by the way) of fuel by backing your speed down 5-10mph.

Could be worse, they could be doing 50 in the outside lane of the motorway - I get at least one moron (that's also a technical term) a day doing 45-50 without a care in the world.

I dont see a problem with it to be honest. I would rather have someone dithering in front of me than a t**t speeding up behind me. Someimes I like to go 10 or 15 mph slower than the MAX speed permitted. People being in a rush to get somewhere is what causes accidents. Maybe the answere is to set off a bit earlier in anticipation for these so called "old farts".

Im sure some Policeman somewhere would consider a ticket for going too slow, now that would be an interesting court case as i dont think theres a minimum speed limit.

I,m with you on the speed thing. It is actually an offence to drive too slow on a road as well as too fast too i do believe as this causes frustration and accidents i.e a hazard to other road users??

We are not asking old farts to speed just to actually do the speed limit would be fine. I do at least 20 - 30K a year so spend allot of time on the road and have seen (and probably done) it all. But the people that drive 45 in a 60 or 35 in a 50 are amongst my favourites!!!

My other gripes are front & rear fog lights on when there is no fog or reduced visibility. Even when there is reduced visibility it is still not okay to put fog lights on till it is less than 100Yards (I believe again). People driving too close who have no intention of overtaking are nightmare too. The list goes on and on and on (The Ariston List).

    Bri.
