Threads where people have had their cars stolen have advice about having two sets of keys for the insurance company.
Is this a specific requirement on all policies ?

insurance companies seem to thing if you have only one key the other was left in the car and how the thief stole the car
iv never been asked by an insurance company yet if i am in possesion of both sets of keys
years ago I had my escort (yes an escort I know LOL) stolen and when we contacted the insurance company the first thing they asked me was did I hold both car keys, I said that I only had one. As soon as I said that they assumed that i had left one it the car and said I was in breach of the policy and refused to pay out. In the end I went to the CAB and they put me in touch wit the insurance ombasman I got the pay out after 14 months
That's a pretty dumb idea. I have spare keys for a few of my old cars still hanging up - they were lost when I sold the car and turned up years later.
just check your policy rules it should say
Have a spare!!! Heaven forbid your car should get stolen...
Norwich Union refused to pay even though I’d sent them BOTH keys. They argued that my Honda Civic (car at the time) should have come with THREE! Keys...never heard that one before either!
This went one for 6 months!!! In the end they came to my house interviewed me and finally paid.
Insurance companies will scam you out of your money if they can.
