Default 4 police men killed Sunday morning....

Some of you may have seen in the news over the weekend the 4 police officers who were killed when their 4x4 crashed and cought fire. I live about 100 yards from where the accident happened.

The police helicopter landed just behind my back garden Sunday morning, taking the chief constable to the scene.

It seems that the impact of the crash caused the fuel tank to leak which led to a fire. A local taxi driver tried to smash the windows as they could'nt open the doors..... it must have been an awful.

One of the officers killed was in his early 20's with his partner expecting their 2nd child......

    Does'nt bear thinking about!

Bad news, whatever some people's veiw on police officers, at the end of the day, they are doing a job we all need them to do, and it's such a terrible loss.

Apparently a taxi driver was out on the road (around 4ish) and tried to free the officers in the back while the car was alight. He used his fire extinguisher to try and smash the window... I can't imagine what I would be like seeing that.....

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62889 - the other thread.

The guys have been named, two of them in their 20's and two in their 30's. A huge tragedy, the worst case of Police deaths since the "troubles" ended.

The Shogun had bulletproof glass, so he's have been beating for hours. I'm sure it was awful seeing those guys burning alive inside the car.

I suspect there'll be some changes made to those Shoguns in light of this accident. I thought they were mostly diesels, but it seems that one was a petrol one, because diesel is very, very difficult to light and almost never explodes in that sitation.

I know that bit of road well, it's a bad surface there, a shiny concrete surface that gets quite slippy. I suspect she went tail out and spun round and hit the bridge tail on.

This has been an accident waiting to happen , I used to be involved in the installation of ballistic glazing in the range rovers in greater manchester , we used to drop the old damaged units off for the fire brigade to practice on , I've always wondered when this would happen , normally it's only the windshield and front doors that are ballistic , rear glass is standard - so on a warm day you might see the bobbies driving around with the rear windows down and the front up , this is because the front are fixed and bonded into place. lesson learned I think - the hard way.
