    Default Nearly...

...left the Vectra fold today. Went out with the missus today for her to test drive an Astra Sport Hatch back to back with a Golf TDI and she couldn't make up her mind which one she preferred. I came up with the plan of her buying the Golf and me chopping in the Vec against the Astra and then we'd have both!

Unfortunately, the dealer wouldn't accept any offers on the Astra and the VW dealers p/ex offer for the wife's car was laughable, so we walked away from both places empty handed.

P.S. I liked the Astra muchly. Going to look at another on Monday!

VW dealers are laughable. Top whack prices for below average cars. Servicing & repairs a fortune. Kids in tesco shirts as salesman, rubbish.
Wouldn't go near VW ever again, the wife fancied a Golf but I steered her away.

Sorry but VW think themselves a cut above the rest. Not true.

Quite right. I had a Passat that suffered many faults, compounded by arrogant and useless dealers. I wouldn't ever look at another VW, ever.

That's interesting - my experience of VW is that my local dealer isn't all that interested in selling cars. We left several messages for someone to call us regarding a Polo which we wanted to buy from them as a courtesy car for our bodyshop... did they reply to any of them? Did they hell...

Cheers Micky. TBH, I really like the Vectra, but the way it's plummeting in value is pishing me off big time! I got a bank loan to pay for it and I'm already in the red, so to speak, as the car has dropped 2 grand in value in less than 6 months of ownership (Vaux dealer said the trade-in value was £9.5K). This is not good and I reckon an Astra may be a slightly better bet, with it being the current shape, an' all.

Astra we drove today was a Design model. It's tiny inside compared to the Vec, but I liked the feeling of being coccooned by the car, rather than just sitting in it. The spec is much higher (half leather, auto wipers etc.) than an SRi Vectra and it doesn't handle like a boat, either!

Exacty, when I was looking for a Passat they had a take it or leave it attitude. They couldn't care less if I bought or not. Eventually bought in Birmingham from a trainee salesman and managed to get a reasonable deal.

His manager tried to change the terms and chased after me as I walked out of the showroom.

Hehe, like it! That trainee salesman evidently wouldn't have earned his commission if he gave it all away to you!

I work for a franchised BMW dealer, formerly as a MINI salesman, now I look after the used car stock. Out of interest, does anyone have any experiences of BMW or MINI dealers?

Yes, I do, before the vec I had a 325 coupe.

Bought from Sytner, who I would rate as very good for sales and service, but then again given the prices you pay you shouldn't get anything less.
