Angry 2.2 direct design 2005 petrol

ive just brought the above car.the car is fine driving around the streets but as soon as i hit the motor way( i do a lot a mway driving) above 60mph (high revs) i get a little judder in the engine and the spanner light comes on. i pulled up then started the engine again and the light goes off. i drive again and as soon as hit 65-70 it does the same again. the light stays on until i restart the engine.the 1st tiem it happened i couldnt get any revs and it was going dead slow but that has only heppened once(the 1st time).when the light comes on now i havnt noticed any performance issues.

    Hi there Mani,

Have a quick read of the thread that I started, does your car have a turbo??

Here is the link to the thread, it sounds like you are experiencing a very similar problem. LINK!

sound like the symptoms of a failing high pressure fuel pump to me, a common problem with the 2.2 direct petrol engines. You need to get it on a decent code reader, pull the fault codes and go from there.

The high pressure fuel pump is 315 + vat. It is only available from Vauxhall, although if you know one end of a spanner from the other its quite a straight forward job to replace. Just search this forum for high pressure fuel pump problems and you'll see how problematic this pump is, I have replaced the pump and pressure regulator on mine myself after having problems very much like yours. You really need to get the engine management code read though, see what fault codes it has stored, then work your diagnosis out from there.

HP fuel pump is probably worst case senario, without fault codes we're just guessing but if your luck is anything like mine, mr sod and his law will play his part and pick the most expensive part/s to fail... keep us updated

the fuel pump and regulator sounds like the problem mate. when i got my 2.2 direct sri i saw the repair form in the glovebox.

same symptoms as yours happened to previous owner and it was traced to the pump.

the garage they used charged around 250 if i remember correctly
