Default 1.8 VVTi engine, lack of power.

I have a 1.8 in a Signum 56 13.000 on th clock. Maybe it's just me but my car seems very very sluggish. from a standing start everything on the road accelerates away from me. you name it and I'll guarantee it will leave me standing. Also the gear change isn't as smooth as other cars I've had, almost like there is a flat point between 2nd and 3rd also sometimes hesitates when pulling away in 1st. Does anyone else suffer this kind of performance from the 1.8? maybe it's normal and I'm expecting too much from a small engine in a big car. What do you think?

Mine's a 1.8 mate and that's it I'm afraid. The signum is even heavier as well.
You can do the airbox mod, K&N filter and air intake mod. That helps.
I recently had a new clutch and flywheel fitted as it's a known issue with the 1.8, under warranty
Have a read of this. http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...ddering+clutch

Thanks for that Shan. Had clutch and flywheel replaced a month ago, stopped the judder but didn't improve the smoothness of gear change. Will modifying the air intake affect the warranty?

I would not think changing the intake will void the warranty. I'm quite sure the VX mec's would never even notice. You don't have to get any service work done at VX anyway to keep the warranty good.
