today I had the pleasure of forgetting to turn off me headlights and when I returned 45 mins later the car battery was completley flat.... should the battery have lasted a bit longer than this ?

If it was chuffing cold up there as I think it is?, then your battery isn't going to last as long in the cold. It could be an indication that the battery is dropping in performance and maybe worth getting it tested.

45 minutes with head lights is quite a lot of energy.

about 120 watts (2 head lights at 55W each, plus other side lights) for 3/4 hour is 75 Ah. What is the battery rated at on yours? Remembering that the battery wouldnt be completely discharged, but not enough to crank.

    120 W = 12 V x 10 A
    3/4 hour x 10 A = 7.5 Ah.

Oops, cocked that up didn't I?? It was quite late though. I'm usually fairly good with Maths too.

Mine wouldn't start after 45 mins of headlights either.
