    Default Droning from front end

Everything seems to go wrong at the same time............

Now got a droning from the front at 30mph plus and only goes away at about 65mph when road noise takes over.

It's a droning/humming noise and to rule out possible causes:

Brand new tyres on today (Uniroyals) back and front. The droning is now louder as I can hear things better now the NCT5's are off
New 314 brakes fitted on front today, droning still there whether brakes are on or off.
Auto box - droning is still there whether in drive or neutral.

Had the droning noise before the tyres and brakes were done. Had MOT only two weks ago and absolutely nothing flagged up. Have just searched 855 threads for the possible cause and it looks like it's front bearings but no threads on driveshafts.

Can't tell if the noise is n/s or o/s so guess I'll have to replace both front bearings but could it be the drive shafts?

Jacked front up and no play when holding wheels at 12 and 6 o'clock but play in both fronts when pulling/pushing at 3 and 9 o'clock. I know these "modern" bearings are hard to check for play but before the 314's went on, I did check for any roughness and nothing there.

This motor has now become a bottomless pit of money, worse than a ****ing boat I had once.

Bottom line - bearings or driveshafts??????????? and where to get bearings from (LMF?)?

So just before I take the plunge and use my kids' inheritance (again) to get these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MakeTrack=true....................

Am I going down the right road?

Does sound like a wheel bearing
To find out which as the bearing is loaded the noise is normally more noticeable on the side that’s loaded most.

Are you sure its the front. Are the rear tyres "cambered" and its them that are "droning"?
