    Question Insurance query

I'm getting happily into doing my minor mods now.

So far I've added map reading lights, rear light, sunglasseses holder.
Next week will be the heated seats and Irmscher door locking buttons..

Then I fancy changing to an Irmscher front grille and de-badging the boot. At some point I'll add the auto-dimming mirror and rain sensors + a new windscreen in the usual way...

Any opinions on which (if any) of these I should declare to the insureres? I know the golden rule is to declare everything and you can't go wrong. However, once they've been told, you can't un-tell them if they're all silly about it... Especially since most of these *might* have been factory fitted or dealer fit from new?

I'm hoping there shouldn't be any increase in premium for these trivial things, anybody experienced otherwise?

    Cheers!

i cant see that minor interior stuff making a difference not unless your fitting a 42" lcd to the dashboard. exterior mods like big alloys, spoilers skirts etc may make a difference

I dont think the grille would make any difference it is a vx part anyway and it would probably take you ages to try and explain to the insurers how a different grille makes your car look any more different

Liverpool Victoria class the grill as an upgrade and will not insure the car if fitted. You may find many insurance companies do not have a clue what parts can or can't be fitted. You even have to tell them if you wish to fit reversing sensors

Your best bet is to call them and ask them IF I fit this or change this will it effect my policy.

ALL insurance companies will do there best to get out of paying up, I know, working in the vehicle rental industry for 10 years I have seen that may insurance assessors looking for anything to turn down a claim, these guys know what should be on every car and its easy to check back on the standard fitted equipment levels and also any factory upgrades fitted to the vehicle.

Don’t risk anything tell them, but ask before you fit

Surely that wouldn't know the specs of all cars that well to know which have or haven't got rear lights for instance? I can see them guessing that the grille isn't original - but how about rain sensors - older models had the as standard...
