Default Tyres and my oh sh*t moment!

I travel on a dual carriage way most days (its my way to work and into the local town centre) and I noticed a 'slight' wobble on the steering wheel.

I had just had two new tyres fitted to the front of the car and originally thought it must be the balancing that was off. I know that Vec C's are fussy about balancing.

Check the tyres over first before going back to the garage and couldn't see anything obvious. Thought I may as well check the rear tyres while I was at it.

    I found this......

Tyre had 'bulged' in 4 seperate places!

Went back to the tyre place and the first thing the guy said was "Erm, think you may need a new tyre on that!"

Personally, I would get onto the manufacturer and ask their opinion for some contribution, as you've owned the tyre from new and it has not been abused in any way

    Lucky

If it goes in that many places, doesn't it suggest the sidewall banding has snapped? Even on a non-XL tyre there are hoops to keep the shape steady. It suggests a manufacturing issue though - I've kerbed one or two (hard enought to crack a wheel bearing in one case, on icy road, but at least contact with anyone else was avoided) and never saw bulges, let alone that many or that big.

Hopefully you've still got the tyre - if not for passing on to the manufacturer, then to get the details from it. NCT5 were subject to a recall/replace for a particular range made in one factory because of a delamination risk (this would have been checked on servicing at main dealer) - maybe you can query the maker to see if something similar has affected your brand? Then get all the others swapped at their expense too, if they are identical age, batch, factory etc.

Making a warranty claim on a tyre is a long drawn out process, but in most cases they are approved
First you need to purchase a replacement tyre
You then need to take the faulty tyre to the place where you originally purchased it, if these two places are the same then that makes life easier!
You then wait about six to eight weeks and the origina retailer will advise you that the tyre has been returned along with a report
If there is a warranty claim approval then the retailer will process a refund
This equates to a percentage of the remaining tread, with a minimum of 2mm

However, it should be noted that if the tyre has any wear and tear, punctures, or cuts then in most cases the warranty claim is reduced substantially or even declined

Conti's aren't the best tyre for coping with bumps and bruises.
