WowI was talking to one of the vendors recently, that MessageLABS has been aquired by Symantec

It just goes to show that businesses are buying one another up at the moment...

hhhmm, did not know that, are symantec taking a leaf from Cisco/MS as in they buy rather than develop themselves ?
They all seem to be buying one another up at the moment, for the technology and customers...
I know that they are really worried about losing their jobs, it is happen across all the vendors at the moment and resellers as well...
I feel for the ones, that have families; especially as Christmas is around the corner...![]()
Symantec probably bought Messagelabs as they were/are incapable of making a good product themselves...![]()
The market is saturated at the moment and extremely competitive
Businesses grow through aquisition as its the quickest way for market penetration. Thats how Computer Associates grew so quickly through the '90s
Symantec need to be in the hosted services sector and MessageLabs have been up for sale for a while
However, one of the key benefits of hosted security is being able to provide multiple Anti-Virus engines for filtering.
It will be interesting to see how Symantec will position themselves when using another AV vendor to provide this service, and remain competitive with other hosted vendors?
Everything changes...
If the price drops then it will be easier to sell the service, especially compared to Positini on the spam filtering front!
