This thread is no more than a rant at VX and VX spares in general
Following on from http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=62279, I've stripped the o/s caliper down only to find, for whatever reason, the piston pot won't retract fully in to the caliper body - it goes in easily half way by hand then jams. It's as if the pot is tapered! I've rubbed everything down and still no luck. Without stripping the n/s one, I'm guessing it'll be the same scenario.
Now the rant...........
1) Local VX dealer doesn't have the seals kit to rebuild the calipers even if the pot did fit properly. Searched the parts database and nothing in the UK - 10 day wait from Germany, for that read "a lot longer". Also no pots in the country.
2) So I resort to plan B - ask about re-con calipers. For dealer's answer, read 1) above.
So thanks VX, you're going to make me spend £300-£400 on a 314mm brake upgrade (I've got 302mm at the moment). To cap it all, no transport then for the forseeable future. However, the original discs probably need replacing anyway.
Not something I'd allowed for but I can't see another way forward if the car's to be back on the road within two weeks.
