Reg plate check

I have been informed that the private plate i'm looking for was bought back in 1997.
How do i find what it's on and possibly the owner.
I've heard of a site that can be used to check it out but i can not find it in a search.
Any idea's.

This site will probably find what type of car the plate is on.

To find out who might own it, the DVLA use to do something called a fee paying enquiry. I had a hit and run on an old car of mine as I saw the number plate as he drove off. I paid a small fee for this info.

The only problem was...... you had to have a damn good reason for getting the info.

Cheers Guy's the tyre-shopper shows it as being on a Silver BMW Z3.
Not know on the insurance one.

I contacted the DVLA today and they have told me it was sold at auction to somebody in 1997 for 5k but it's no longer on a vehicle thats insured or taxed.
They say it's possible that it's on SORN or Retention.
I've now hit a wall with it
I'll keep digging and see what else i can find. It's 5HAN BTW

I'd take 1k
