Default 2.2 DTI 16V - 5th Gear Acceleratiom EML come on.

    Hi all,

The problem i'm having with my 2.2 DTI 16V Elite is when in 5th gear doing 50 - 60 MPH and then put my foot to the floor the EML comes on prior to the car reaching 70MPH. It is as if the turbo is lagging then EML kicks in. If I take the car to +70 in 4th then change to 5th then there is no problem, but the car will do this every single time of trying to accelerate away from 50 - 60 MPH with foot to the floor. It even happens if you use cruze control to accelerate from same sort of MPH in 5th. Any help or suggestions would be greatfully appreciated. Many thanks, Bri.

Sounds like the classic split boost hose - very common on the 2.0/2.2 DTi. Go over all your boost hoses looking for any little split - often not that noticeable - making sure you check the underside and there's a good chance you'll find a little split. There's modified hose that is stronger. Downside is that it's the complete boost hose assembly so a few £££ i.e. they don't do the two parts separately, you need to buy the whole thing.

    Thumbs up Reply

    Thanks Duncan,

I will look at the pipes later today and see if what i can find. When you say £££ just what sort of £££ are we talking? Although when i got the car the previous owner said he had just replaced one of the boost pipes due to a split. The one that is slightly hidden under the top of the engine plastic cover (3 x Torque Screws). Will be a good starting point. Thanks again.

    .....Help and Advice Please....

Had car in the garage today. It was put on tech2 and taken for a test drive. Apparently is was proven the viens on the turbo are sticking? The mechanic then done a software update on the car that apparently makes some sensor less sensative and stops the EML coming on so easy. Needless to say i've still got same problem so no better off although the problem no longer happens 100% of the time more 95% of the time so it has improved.

Then the mechanic let rip with a sledge hammer!! He advised me to put in some additive to the fuel and said it could clear the problem but if not I will need a new turbo (Jaw Drop £££££££££££££££££££). Has anybody got any other advise or know how i can fix this problem?? If I have to get a new turbo does anyone know where i'll get a new one cheap - ish.

How exactly did he prove that? What was his full diagnosis to come to that conclusion?

Re the boost pipe, yeah I think that's the main one I was referring to that you described in your other boost. If it was replaced then you wouldn't expect it to go again - but still worth checking it though. In terms of £££, I think it was around £120 - but that's just from memory so don't quote me.

If you've got sticking vanes, then it's going to need a rebuild on the turbo, they are a stupidly sensitive design, not mechanic friendly at all.

Turbo Technics in Northampton seem to have a good rep, Duncan certainly had very good service.

    Hi Duncan,

No idea how he proved it really as i was not present for the duration while the car was at the garage. I can only assume tests and proffesional knowledge? But who knows may just want to rip me off???

I had a check of the replaced boost pipe and all seems okay, all secure and no noticable leaks, rips or splits. There is a noticable noise at times when turbo is spinning up and winding down which is hard to describe but it just feels like it is not smooth until turbo is actually boosting (almost a retardation). Perhaps this is how the mechanic come to the conclution, you've got me thinking and i'm going to ask him when i next go back. I've to return in a few days to see if the additive thing has worked.

Advice is always welcome and recieved with gratitude.
