    Default Tyre report 1

I've been working the last few days, finally got round to reading the first report that has come back on the tyres I have been testing
Interesting to note the comments on the rear tyres

    Front tyres :
    225/45 R17 Michelin Primacy SP 94V XL
    Complete wear, nearside
    225/45 R17 Michelin Primacy SXE 91Y
    Complete wear, offside

    Rear tyres :
    225/45 R17 Good Year Eagle F1 GSD3 94W XL
    Nearside 3.6mm wear
    225/45 R17 Good Year Eagle F1 GSD3 94W XL
    Offside 3.3mm wear

Both Michelin tyres have worn as expected
There is minor additional wear on the nearside, to be expected and normal
There are 17 defect markers, 6 on the nearside and 11 on the offside, to be expected from wear and tear
    There are no intrusive markers

Both Good Year tyres are not subject to this test
However, they are showing clear signs of tramlining
This may be due to tyres not being rotated, as typical for Vectra C test

Who are you testing them for, and why are they testing old designs like the GS-D3? Also why were you running two different tyres on the front?

I was asked by Michelin tyres to perform a comparison test
    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...hlight=primacy

They had to take into account the existing tyres, which was the Eagle F1 GSD3
These then stayed on the rear and at the end of the test had a further 6000 miles on them, where normally they would have been swapped to the front by then

I'd still be concerned about the differing tyres on the front axle. Sounds like you've got an interesting job though.

Michelin used to be THE tyre for long running. Seems that's no longer the case.

Michelins are OEM on my car. I've only done 14000m and the fronts are just about worn out.

The Contis I had on my 19" Snowflakes lasted 24000m. That's what I'll be going back to.

Out of interest, what do the Volvos and 5 series at work run on? Any reports on handling, mileage etc, might be appreciated

Michelin is my preferred first choice of tyre, I was asked several years ago if I would be interested in future comparison testing

There are no issues in having different tyres on the same axle, providing you follow some basic rules
Both tyres MUST have the same profile, in this case 225/45R17
Both tyres MUST exceed the minimum load and speed rating, which for the Vectra C is 89H
Both tyres MUST exceed the minimum load index for the vehicle specific weight, which for the 3.0 V6 CDTI hatchback manual is 91 at the front and 89 at the rear

I run 225/45/17 94V XL michelin pilot primacy too. Your report shows complete wear on the front. What mileage did the fronts do to get fully worn?

Just had a look at two Strathclyde Police Volvos and they are on Michelins, the other three BMWs are on Good Year NCT5

In my second from last post, they were removed having done just 6207 miles

All PSNI vehicles are fitted with Goodyear tyres after whatever factory fit tyres are worn out. Seems to be mostly Goodyear Excellence on the Vauxhalls and Octavias, and Eagle F1 GSD3 on the faster Vauxhalls (V6T Vectras and Omegas) and on the Superbs.
