How DO you bleed a diesel

As above, luckily Ive never ran out of diesel have always woundered how to bleed a modern diesel I thought older diesels had a rubber bulb you had to squeeze or a plunger to keep pressing/

Just curious really, also I dont intend on running out as it can **** your engine apperently

Aren't they automatic bleeding? ie with the engine turning over?

Should be in your manual:

Diesel fuel system, bleeding
Never let the tank run dry. If control
indicator illuminates, refuel as soon as
possible. Refuel immediately if it flashes.

Restarting after running out of fuel is
possible, but starting behaviour will be
delayed. Turn on the ignition three times
for 15 seconds each time. Then start the
engine for a maximum of 40 seconds. If it
does not start, repeat the process after
waiting at least 5 seconds. If the engine still
does not start, contact a workshop.

I ran out of Diesel and it automatically bled itself, took about 3 turns of the key and it started.

Keep cranking, it'll start just before the starter bursts into flames.

2.0 and 2.2 dti models can be a pig to start,the 1.9s have an internal pump in the tank so self bleed

I left mine parked facing up my driveway when I went away on holiday, took me about 10 min of turning to gt it going again. Battery is very good

1.9's self bleed, the older DTi's need a specific bleed kit and is a 4-spanner job according to Haynes...

.. or , you just fill the fuel filter bowl with DERV and overfill it viathe screwhole on the top to expel all air, then turn the key.....
