Default Looking to step up, what can you tell me?

    Hi all,
I hail from Auckland New Zealand. We have two Vectra 'A' s in the family. One is my partners GLS spec for getting around town and the other is my project / track day car with a worked C20XE motor.

I'm wanting a Vectra 'C' 2.2 as a daily driver, they are light on gas, comfortable and nice to drive . . or so I'm told. I'm looking for a 2002 - 2006 model.

Today a sales man told me that the Vectra 'C' is an unreliable dog and I should stay well clear of them. He says that the gear boxes blow up and the electrics are horid and I'd be better off with some thing else.

Can anyone help me out? I'd like to hear what your experiences are with your Vectra 'c'.

EDIT: I wanted to add, my current daily driver is a Peugeot and i've had endless problems. I want a reliable car that I can just drive for 3 - 4 years with no problems, I intend to service it regularly.

Do you think a Vectra c could do this?

    welcome aboard!

Your salesman wasn't trying to sell you a more expensive car instead, was he?

For reliablility, I don't think the Vec C is any better or any worse than any other car. Diesel engines have more than their fair share of problems, all are well documented on this forum. Petrol engines seem to fare much better.

The auto gearboxes on early (pre-2004) models were prone to giving up, but these should now all have been fixed under recall, the manual boxes are fine.

The electrics are controlled by a CANBUS system, so working on it is potentially awkward, but again, no real documented problems with the electrics AFAIK.

The recent JD Power survey put the Vectra quite high up in terms of reliability. Obviously it's not a Subaru or Toyota, but it was well above Pug.

I used to drive a Pug, was in the dealers broken 25 times in the 18months I had it from new. Pure crap.

Definitely worth the relatively little extra you'll pay for it over the 2.2. Also not as thirsty as the 3.2 V6 or the VXR but lively enough IMO.

I had a Peugeot..... Nice car but very French, electrics were a nightmare!

I have had my Vectra C for 18months now and not had any major problems at all.

    Overall a nice motor!
