Default Buying new computer help required

Been to pc world today to see about new desktop. I'm pretty usless with computors but was advised by the sales chap that a packard bell x2326 @£399 was good value and would serve me well for prob about 3- yrs comes with 19" tft screen.

Can anyone recomend this or any other pc. only need it for work (micro soft office) and internet use.

Also the son 16 yrs old is after a new laptop, so will be looking to maybe get him a new one for chrimbo for maybe about £500 can anyone recomend me a decent one of these aswell. He wants it for college work, internet and playing basic games.

Also as i'm self employed they offered me both of the above on business rental whats your opinions on this ???

I was told and follow the buy the best you can afford. I did this back in 2005 and only now is it starting to struggle with the latest top notch games but other wise its fine.
I bought a Fujitsu Siemens desktop and the only trouble I have had from it is dust build up on the heatsink which was sorted out by the warranty people, a quick dust and hoover and back to ok again.

Just make sure whatever you do that you get some Anti Virus software on it and keep it up to date. That way you should never have any porblems with virus's on your computer.

Take it from an IT person who spends his life looking at his mates other mates computers.

For what you use it for any basic PC will do with 1 gig of ram though 2 is better.

If you want something more racey then you want.....

    Intel Quad Core Processor
    8800GT/9800 GT Graphic Card
    3 Gig Ram
    250+ Sata HD
    550w + Power Supply

Anything with this lot in will play games at good speeds and edit/convert mpeg fast.

as for playing games on the lappy u will need a very good spec for most new games to play smoothly.

we bought this for our kids birthday dell lappy for every day computer stuff it was spot on but games it was hit and miss old games 2 year & older was fine but newer games it was slow and jerky plus no sound.
even playing POGO was a pain at times.
BTW i wouldn't trust PC world to sell me a power adapter.

I'd say that PC looks very good for the money. As for laptops, I too have had good experiences with Acer - the Tesco deals look very good. The 5720 looks nice.
