Default Ebay / Paypal woes! (long post!)

I've been selling loads of things of ebay recently to try and get some cash together.

While in the loft I found two zafira headlights. Forgotten I had them and as they are no use now I have the vectra I put them on the bay.

They sold pretty quick for £20 quid each.

I sent them off over 3 weeks ago now and on Wednesday this week, I read my emails for the first time for a while and I found out I had a dispute case against me on paypal from the guy who bought the lights.

He had emailed me Sunday but because I hadn't replied instantly, he opened the dispute on Wednesday.

Basically he states that a bracket is broken on one of the lights and wants a refund. I emailed back straight away saying it was no problem, didnt realise the bracket was broken and happy to refund. Also explained I hadnt read my emails and wasnt intentionally ignoring him.

Took me until Friday to work out how to refund (never had a dispute case before). I emailed the guy twice on his address and replied via paypal saying that refund has been granted and please arrange to have lights sent back to me.

    I've heard nothing!

This guy now has me over a barrell. Not only does he have a full refund but he also has both the lights!!

Firstly how long do I wait for a reply and/or the lights to be returned and secondly, is there anything I can do if the lights are not returned to me.

    Cheers
    Jus

    (Sorry for the long post!)

I hate to say it, but you're knackered. I hope you only refunded the purchase price, and not the purchase + postage price?

Had this issue with some lights I sold a while back. Guy said a lug was broke. I know it wasnt and I had packed them so well you could have dropped the parcel off the top of the post office tower. Asked him to send pictures and also informed him the items were security marked . Strangely enough never heard from him again.
I would suggest contacting Paypal again to see if you can reverse the payment while you wait for the lights to be returned

Report him to the police. It's theft, plain and simple.

Always ask for parts to be returned before issuing a refund as that is what paypal tells you to do

Had an email from the guy, will return one headlight and give me the money back for the other headlight he wants to keep.

Just need to wait and see if they arrive.

I was getting rather annoyed because I'd never had a dispute case before and I personally dont think paypal make it easy to understand if you are the one the dispute is against. But hey ho, lets see what happens now.

Well I now have the money back in my paypal account (and now transferred out) for the headlight the buyer has decided to keep.

Just waiting for the damaged headlight to be retruned now.

Looks like its all ok. Thanks for all the comments anyway guys, at least now I know that if this happens again, I need to ask for the item back first before granting a refund.
