    Default Turbo Whistle Question

    Reading a few of the posts about leaking pipes and so on has got me thinking.

    When I drive i hear the turbo noise winding up then when change gear you hear the pressure escape, sounds cool I think. But does this mean i have leaking pipes?

    When driving along the motorway for instance at say 1800rpm I have no power when I put my foot down and gradually get acceleration building up then at 2100rpm the power kicks in. Also driving round town I have to keep the rev's up to about 2000rpm when changing gear to keep any kind of decent acceleration. Is this normal?

    Oh and I have a 2.2 Diesel Signum, I have no spanner lights or anything.

    Oh and the dam thing broke down on Monday, Had no heat inside the car, temp went up to max then the engine died on me, tried to start but batt was dead. Turns out it was a broken bolt that holds on the tensinor pully or something. Is that normal for the bolt to break?

    Its the wastegate you hear when you change gear. As for the the other noise? sounds normal or of your losing power, maybe a intercooler pipe cracked? And i have no idea what bolt your talking about lol

    All sounds normal apart from the bolt. Its a common problem on the 2.2dti's for the bottom pully bolt to shear off and the belt comes off etc
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    the aux drive belt tensioner pulley bolt does snap..ive done a couple and heard of more.. but fitting a tougher bolt usually cures it...as for the turbo...if the engine isn't smoking, pulls well with no spannner lights on the dash all is well..

    That puts my mind at rest then all sounds normal. I like the car but if things keep breaking down and costing me money I might be forced to sell it and go back to my Mondeo........

    And yes the bottom pully bolt sounds about right, £2.50 for the bolt and £60 + Vat labour from my local garage. Thats got to be cheaper than a VX dealer repair
