    Default This doesn't seem right...

OK, so I'm 19 years old with 2 years NCB and drive a 52-plate Vectra C 1.8 SRi. I pay £96 a month to insure my baby Veronica, but something shocked me today...

I have always wanted an Alfa Romeo (they say you aren't a true petrol-head until you own one) and would love, love, love a V6 engine underneath my right foot. I've been offered a X-reg Alfa Romeo 156 2.5l V6 (full leather, cd player, alloys, boot spoiler, etc etc etc) for silly money, but at the moment have declined the offer.

Out of curiosity, I checked with Direct Line (my current insurer) for a quote on the Alfa, expecting a bomb to drop because of my age. But, they are willing to insure me on the V6 156 for £85 a month.

Oh, what is a guy to do...

It would be a replacement for the Vectra (already have a small 1.2 Clio to run about it). I'm more than aware of the unreliability of Alfa's, expensive parts and servicing etc etc... but the power, the noise, the handling... the look. The feel? That's why I would have one...

    Choices, choices...

That would be, you aren't a true petrolhead until you have absorbed the cost of a cambelt change on an alfa
    trust me I know

honestly would take the bargepole option with an X plate 2.5 156, it's cheap for a reason - not many people want to get into a big petrol engined car at the moment, and nobody [apart from possibly you] wants to get into an old, large/complicated engined alfa romeo!
my late dad had an Alfa, it went wrong all the time and had to be resprayed twice. i've driven a 156, and they aren't a bad drive, but buying it would be the easy bit...

Probably because it will be off the road more than it's on it.

No seriously the V6 is the one to have. I has a 156 2.0 TS which I bought of a trader just to get me to work until I found a new car. I ended up keeping it for 6 months. They only reason I sold it was because I had killed it and the big ends knocked very badly.

Just make sure it has been well serviced especially the oil changes.

I had an x reg 156 2.0 ts sport pack 2 . It was fantastic. just make sure you have plenty of savings if you get it ! mine cost me 4 grand in repairs alone over 2.5 years and when I got rid of it (for the veccy) still needed a new radiator and the brakes kepts seizing , oh and i lost 8 grand depreciation in those 2.5 years too !!

wouldnt have another if you paid me but dont regret having one (much).
